Before Maitland was promoted to the NPL in 2015, they several years in the lower divisions of Newcastle Football.
2019 was a breakout season for the Magpies. In their fifth year at NPL level, the Magpies claimed their first ever premiership title, finishing 5 points clear of second place. The same season saw the Magpies qualify for the FFA Cup Round of 32, unfortunately going down to Central Coast Mariners.
2020 was not as fruitful, but the club did manage to qualify for the Grand Final from fifth place to eventually go down to Edgeworth 1 nil in the final game o the season.
