Shellharbour Sharks started out as a Rugby Union club before changing codes in 1920.
The Sharks have 6 Group 7 titles to date with their last in 2018 when they defeated Kiama 32-22. The Sharks had brief stints in the Illawarra Rugby League and NSW Cup competitions as Shellharbour Marlins and Dragons, before returning to Group 7 in 2014.

It was a case of so close for the Sharks in 2024. After an almost perfect season, the Sharks lost 3 of their last 6 to go from Clayton Cup contenders to runners-up ,losing the Grand Final to Gerringong Lions 28-10.
