Creating Custom Clips
The BarTV Sports Coaching Portal ("Grover") now allows coaches and analysts to create custom clips - choosing the section of clip and also speed to display the clip. These clips can be added to a clip collection, just like any other clip, and shared with judiciary, referees and players. We hope this will be an extremely powerful tool for player analysis and foul play review.
1. Creating Custom Clips
Alongside each clip, you will now see a "cut" button. You can click on this button to start the "custom clip" process. Clips can be taken from any "base" clip - be it a "FULL EVENT", a "period clip" (a half or quarter) or an event clip such as a penalty, try or yellow/red card.
A pop-out window will appear that looks similar to below:
From here you can start to play the original video, pausing it as necessary or slowing it down using the "playback speed" drop-down. When you come to the point of the clip you wish to start your custom clip, click the green button labelled "Set In Point". You will see the following text appear:
The above text shows your custom clip will start 9 seconds into this original clip. Now navigate the video (by playing, or clicking on the video timeline) until you get to the point you wish to stop the clip. Now click "Set Out Point". At any time, you can clear these entries by clicking the "Clear" button.
The screenshot above shows a clip that will cut between 9 sec and 21 sec (for a total of 12 seconds clip). Next, it is useful to give this clip a short "tag" or "code" to help you identify it in the future (NOTE: Longer notes can be added later, when you add this clip to a collection, to be shared. In the meantime, use a simple tag like "TACKLE", "FOUL", etc).
The "speed" of the clip (or the speed which it is played back by default) can be set on this screen. Set this using the dropdown below. This is very useful for judiciary footage or high-performance analysis.
When you are ready, click the green button labelled "Save New Clip".
2. Viewing Custom Clips on an event
When you save a new clip, this will appear on that particular event's page, underneath the list of "master" clips, as shown below. The clip's "tag" (as well as speed and duration) are shown here as a guide.
You can also view ALL of the custom clips you have ever created by clicking the new menu icon labelled "Custom Clips", on the left of the screen. The following page will appear:
At any time, you can review your custom clip by clicking the "Play" button alongside the clip. You should be able to see the clip, playing at the nominated speed, and correct in/out points and length.
3. Adding Custom Clips to a Collection
Once you have created a custom clip, you will likely want to add these to a collection (with comments) to then share amongst players, other coaches, judiciary panels etc. Like any other BarTV Sports clip, you can add these to new or existing collections, as per the notes below. Longer form comments can be made here.
When a custom clip is "viewed" in a shared collection, it will play at the nominated speed (initially) to give the desired impact. Users can then (if they wish) change the speed of a custom clip to view it differently on repeat. Below is an example of a custom clip within a shared collection:
Adding/Managing "Clip Collections"
The BarTV Sports Coaching Portal has a feature where coaches or analysts can "collect" clips together (called "Clip Collections") and share these with players and support staff. You can make notes on individual clips before sharing, and build up collections over the year, or just for individual matches. When you "Share" a clip collection, they become available to the public (via a unique web address) which you can forward on to your team - a bit like a "shared" Google Doc or OneDrive file. Below are some notes on how to manage your clip collections.
1. Start a Collection by adding your clip.
Alongside every clip on an event, there is now a "plus" button to allow you to add this clip to a collection.
When you click this button next to a clip, the following window appears:
Each user has a "Default Collection" or you can drop this box down to create a new, named collection, as shown below:
If you select "+ Create New Collection" you will be shown the option to name this collection. The default name is the name and date of the current match you are looking at, but you can call this collection whatever you want ie. "Great Saves" or "Offside Collection" etc.
Before you add this clip, you can add notes or comments here, to be viewed by staff/players when this collection is eventually shared. Click "Add Clip" and this new collection will be created, with this clip as the first chosen.
2. View Your Collections
Once you have added a collection, you can view this by clicking in the menu on the left (below):
Any collections that you have made will be shown here, along with whether this collection is shared (and how many clips are in the collection):
3. Sharing a Collection
In order to share a collection, first open the collection via the "Clip Collections" page. In the right column, you will see a green button labelled "Share". Clicking this button will show you a screen similar to the one below:
If you click on this link it will be "copied" to your clipboard and you can then paste this into your email program and send to any staff or players, who will then be able to see the nominated clips, any notes, and also your email address (as the author).
The share clip screen looks like the one below. You do not need to be logged in to view these clips. A "Play All" button is visible which will play each clip, one after the other and also show the comments along with the clips as each video progresses.
